Shot entirely on medium format black & white film (Kodak Tri-X 400TX 120) over the course of 2021 - documenting my hometown of Bruce Crossing, MI in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
In 2020 I came up with the idea of this year-long photo project after it seemed like we’d be in for another year of disruption due to the pandemic. I needed a reason to use my PTO and a longer term creative project to focus on felt like a good idea.
The concept was pretty simple: create a photo book photographed entirely on Kodak 400TX Tri-X 120 black and white film with my Mamiya C330f over the course of the year, documenting my small Upper Michigan hometown, Bruce Crossing, as it exists in 2021. There's been changes since I lived there some 30-plus years ago - yet and incredible amount hasn't changed at all beyond getting older.
I had quite a few ideas on what it should be - most of which didn’t work out as I planned. I struggled a bit with reconciling what I had in mind and what it ended up being. In the end, I stuck to my goal of simply creating something and letting it be what it is.
All of the film is self-developed and digitized by me.
